John McCain's Speech: It's About ME

Crossposted from MY LEFT WING

My fellow Americans,

I me my,  I, I, I Me my; I. I. I, I, I -- I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my, I, I, I.  I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. P.O.W. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. P.O.W.  I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. I, me, my. P.O.W. I, I, I. Me, My, I. I, I, I.

If you are still talking about Palin, Do you not want to Win?

Slowly the CW is spreading, but it is a bit sad that people haven't taken the cue from Obama.

when asked about Palin what did he do? well as MSNBC: noted

Obama and his surrogates have repeatedly argued that McCain does not understand the economy in general and that the Republican convention this week was ignoring economic issues. The senator has been saying for weeks that he is best-suited to tackle the problems hardworking families are facing.

exactly they put it back to Obama vs. McCain.

we play into McCain's hands when blogs use front page posts about Palin. I think we did our job the press and the public know there are questionsto ask about Palin. Time for us to get back to our main job.

TAXES TAXES TAXES

The Democrats need to realize that they should just keep it simple. It is unbelievable that McCain and Palin just get away with the false "Obama will raise taxes for EVERYONE" line of attack despite Obama's clear pronouncement about reducing taxes for middle class and poor americans in his acceptance speech. That's because Democrats never give a consistent unified "We also try to minimize taxes" message. Have you ever noticed that property taxes in republican areas are really not any lower than the Democratic party controlled areas for comparable locales? I have not done any serious research on it, but it seems that way to me.

Even freaking Obama will say that he will reduce taxes in one breath but then give equal emphasis in time and tone to "i will increase capital gains". Why the hell do you do that? Just mention it quietly on rare occasions. Just keep it simple. Make your message "I will reduce taxes for nearly everyone" and do the little footnote thing about higher taxes for only certain segments. I have seen Obama get a little more forceful in recent weeks in emphasizing the lower taxes thing. But over the years, the DEmocrats have done a lousy job in fighting for lower taxes that it is ingrained in people's mind that we stand for higher taxes even when the Presidential candidate has veered away from such a tired old approach.

It doesn't help that quite a few democrats have advocated higher taxes in the past making it easier for Republicans to confuse the people with distortions.  Hell, even on this blog, I differ with many of the readers on this issue. Let us get this straight. The deficit will not be cleared by just raising taxes. Congress will just find a way to increase spending with the new found money. The key is to drastically cut spending.

NOw where do we cut spending? The republicans serve their constituents well by fighting for their causes and enrich Halliburton. The DEmocrats do the same with their constituents, many of who are not as rich or fortunate as Halliburton and the assistance is to a lesser degree. But there is one HUGE difference. Republicans will not ask for higher taxes in most cases. They will do their best to kill off the Democratic Party programs. IN an ideal two party system, the Democrats should be doing the same with the other party's programs. Instead, they offer meek resistance and then turn to the tired old "well we need more taxes" mantra. So what ends up happening is the republicans get away with their programs with very little going to much needed liberal programs.  How about curbing spending to the minimum(and with the predicted majorities, make most of the cuts in useless areas such as oil subsidies, war on drugs and other useless bullshit wars). Once you have proven to the taxpayers that you can spend responsibly, raise taxes if you must. Do not ask for higher taxes whe you do not fulfill your duties as responsible representatives that care about how our taxes are spent.

P.S.: Sorry for posting this accidentally on the front page. I realized it and made it a diary instead of an entry.

Absolutely Unacceptable

Time is reporting that the McCain campaign believes that it's unimportant that Sarah Palin do media interviews, that people do not care if she does them, and is laying the groundwork for a process in which she won't:

According to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, the American people don't care whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions about foreign and domestic policy. According to Wallace -- in an appearance I did with her this morning on Joe Scarborough's show -- the American people will learn all they need to know (and all they deserve to know) from Palin's scripted speeches and choreographed appearances on the campaign trail and in campaign ads.

More on Sarah Polin

Many Republicans, and others, have praised the decision by Governor Palin to carry her baby to term despite knowledge of its Down's Syndrome. And they have praised her pregnant unmarried 17 year-old daughter on her decision to have her baby.

Should not they also realize that, if Sarah Palin has her way, such decisions could not be made? The government will have already decided for the woman.

No wonder that one of my daughters has referred to Ms Palin as a "folksy feminine fascist".

Sarah Palin for VP

I wish that she were a liberal Democrat, so that I could root for her and vote for her. She is likeable. charming, and attractive enough to be referred to by some as McCain's "trophy vice".

But her political and social views are intolerable. In addition to her opposition to a woman's right to choose, she denies that humans cause the global warming that threatens Alaska's polar bears, supports the teaching in schools of creationism and abstinence-only sex education. And she wants oil drilling in the Anwr National Wildlife Refuge.

Early in Palin's mayoralty, she wanted to impose book banning on the town library and tried to fire the librarian who resisted. Now, that's scary.

McCain Picks Palin as VP Nominee

McCain did manage to step on the buzz from Obama's stirring closing ceremony speech. Palin-Biden seems a clear mismatch but perhaps not since she is such a charmer

Since Palin was a feisty and successful point guard, maybe she and Obama should go one-on-one.

I'm Feeling A Little Uppity...

...To tell you the truth, I'm having a good laugh at the distinguished Georgia Congressman from the 3rd district sitting in a rocking chair on his front porch down in Sharpsburg sipping on some ice cold lemonade as he leans over to his lovely wife Joan and says to her in that southern accent of his, "I remember when our coloreds were law-abiding.  Now they got some rights and they're starting to think they can date our women and be President."

Then as Lynn Westmoreland leans back in his chair, he clasps his hands over his belly, shakes his head and asks, "What is this world coming to?"

Of course, that whole scenario I just described above is fictional, but there's no denying the fact that Congressman Lynn Westmoreland continues to stand by his choice of words, "uppity," used to describe Barack and Michelle Obama.

Even today, Westmoreland says, "I've never heard that term ['uppity'] used in a racially derogatory sense. It is important to note that the dictionary definition of `uppity' is `affecting an air of inflated self-esteem --- snobbish.' That's what we meant by uppity when we used it in the mill village where I grew up."  [Source:  Atlanta Journal Constitution "Republican defends use of `uppity'", September 5, 2008]

Well, you know, since I'm feeling a little uppity today, let me pull out the Urban Dictionary and cite just one definition of the word "uppity" when combined with the word "negro."

Uppity Negro:

  • Main Entry: up·pi·ty ne·gro
  • Pronunciation: 'up + -ity 'nE-(")grO
  • Function: proper noun
A fearless black person who by social definition is "not in their place."

Here's another definition:

"An out of place black person who is out of line and thinks they are as good as or better than the white person they are standing next to."

You know, as a black person, I'm not mad at Lynn Westmoreland.  Instead, I'm having a good laugh at the expense of this ignorant member of Congress and hoping that his Democratic opponent, Stephen Camp, cleans his clock in November.

Now let me continue with my uppity ways and get me some grape juice...

...Yeah, that's right.  I know all about juice too.  I learned about it from Dave Chappelle and now I'm going to spread the word to a few other uppity negroes.

More Republican Wasteful Spending

The Bush administration has found yet another way to waste taxpayer money while providing huge sums to private contractors.  According to a survey of activities in 2007 by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, about a third of the federal professional intelligence workforce now consists of contractors, mostly in the Washington, DC area.

Calling all Female Democratic Leadership

Just a quick addendum to an earlier diary.

from New York Times article:

With the McCain-Palin team courting undecided female voters, including some who backed Mrs. Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Obama aides say they are counting on not only Mrs. Clinton but also Democratic female governors to criticize their Alaskan counterpart, Ms. Palin -- and, by extension, Mr. McCain -- including Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas.
